The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has launched a focused initiative at the Nkumba University Junction to address the issue of reckless driving, particularly the blatant disregard for traffic signs.
The operation specifically targeted drivers making dangerous U-turns, which endanger lives.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the directorate, noted that this junction has unfortunately become a notorious accident hotspot, resulting in fatalities due to negligent driving.
During the operation, a total of 14 vehicles were seized, including UBF 654H, UAV 839U, UBP 854F, UBF 444F, UBG 766U, UBN 828U, UBK 741N, UBP 693G, UAS 824Q, UBN 660Z, UBR 335R, UAH 710Q, UBP 034, and UBD 902D.
He said all the drivers have been arrested and detained at Entebbe Police Station, where they will be held pending appearance in court on charges of careless driving.
“We will continue to intensify enforcement operations to ensure road safety & compliance with traffic regulations. We urge all motorists to respect road signs and rules to prevent crashes and save lives,” he added.
