A major operation on March 26, 2025, led to the arrest of 83 suspected criminals along the Northern Bypass in Kampala District.
The operation was the result of a coordinated, intelligence-driven effort involving police, military, and intelligence agencies.
It specifically targeted areas notorious for harboring criminal activity, including Wabiku, Balintuma Zone Kiwatule, and Nakawa.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, confirmed that the 83 suspects were apprehended from various crime hotspots along the Northern Bypass.
In addition to the arrests, 10 motorcycles linked to criminal operations were also seized.
Onyango emphasized that all suspects were charged and are currently being held at Kira Road Police Station, awaiting prosecution.
In a separate operation on the same night, starting at 10:00 p.m., the joint security forces also combed through Kungu and Kireka Kamuli Road in an effort to apprehend criminals involved in robberies and assaults in Kira and nearby regions.
This operation resulted in 39 additional arrests, with suspects transported to Kira Division Police for processing.
During this operation, authorities uncovered several illegal items, including opium, a panga, and a hammer, hidden in a temporary timber structure belonging to a suspect named Yanga.
In a dramatic turn of events, one of the suspects, identified as Peter Gonzaga, attempted to escape by jumping from a moving vehicle but injured his ankle in the process.
