Mauritius – A formidable four-player Ugandan team has arrived in Mauritius to compete in the prestigious Commonwealth Billiards and Pool Games, joining elite cue sport athletes from across the globe.

The national team comprises top-ranked cueists, including Uganda’s current men’s Seed 1, Joseph “Sharp Shooter” Kasozi, and Ceasar “Scorpion” Chandiga, who is considered one of Uganda and Africa’s best, along with women’s national champion Ankah Sheila, and one of Africa’s best female pool player Rukia Naiga.

The team departed Entebbe aboard Turkish Airlines ahead of the tournament’s opening day today (July 2, 2025).

The competition will see Kasozi and Sheila battle it out in the Blackball category, while Chandiga and Naiga will represent Uganda in the Heyball discipline.

All four players are among the most decorated in Ugandan pool.

Chandiga, the 2023 Uganda Pool Association (UPA) national champion, currently serves as the Heyball African Ambassador.

Despite his impressive resume, he was dethroned in 2024 by Kasozi, who has since claimed the top national seed and competes with Rocks Berry Pool Club.

Chandiga plays for Upper Voltas Pool Club.

In the women’s division, Rukia Naiga continues to blaze trails. Crowned Uganda’s female Seed 1, she also won the 2023 Nile Special Pool Open. She etched her name in African pool history as the first Ugandan woman to win an individual title at the All-Africa Pool Association (AAPA) Women’s Championship, going unbeaten through the tournament.

Her momentum carried into 2025 when she clinched the Queens International Pool Tournament in Zimbabwe, asserting her dominance on the continental stage.

Joining her is Ankah Sheila, another rising name in Ugandan pool, who is also the 2024 Nile Special Pool Open Championships. She will be looking to make her mark in the Blackball category.

As competition kicks off today in Mauritius, Uganda’s cue sport ambassadors are poised to showcase their talent, grit, and growing reputation on the Commonwealth stage.
