Three individuals suspected of being involved in machete robberies have been apprehended by the police, believed to be part of a larger criminal gang that has been causing distress in the Kajjansi area of Wakiso district.
On October 4, 2024, the Kajansi police intelligence unit received a tip-off regarding a group of young men armed with machetes who were planning to assault the residence of Emma Lutaaya.
Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma stated that the team swiftly organized and tracked the suspects, identifying their motorcycle (registration number UGG 158A, red in color).
“They were seen carrying machetes and knives while pursuing Mr. Lutaaya and his wife. The group attempted to scale the wall of Mr. Lutaaya’s property was thwarted by guard dogs,” he explained.
This same group reportedly made another attempt to invade Lutaaya’s home on October 7, 2024.
During a joint security briefing at police headquarters, Kituuma noted that on October 11, 2024, law enforcement took decisive action, resulting in the arrest of three suspects: Steven Mubiru, Frank Kayanja, and Philip Mutebi.
The motorcycle used in their criminal activities was also confiscated as evidence.
“The suspects have since confessed to their planned attacks on Mr. Lutaaya’s home, claiming that Mubiru provided them with information about the family’s financial situation,” he noted.
