In an effort to gather more evidence, police have conducted searches at the homes of three former high-ranking officials from the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The individuals involved are former Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy Eng. David Luyimbazi, and former Director of Public Health Dr. Daniel Okello, all of whom were detained yesterday by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in Kibuli following their questioning about the Kiteezi Landfill disaster.
Kisaka spent the night at Kira Police Station, while the others were taken to Nateete Police Station.
This morning, she was escorted under heavy security to her residence for a search conducted in her presence, with similar searches carried out at the homes of Luyimbazi and Okello.
Their arrests came after President Yoweri Museveni directed the CID to investigate their roles in the Kiteezi landfill incident, which tragically claimed 35 lives and caused extensive property damage. Many people were left homeless as their homes were destroyed and buried under heaps of waste, and reports suggest that 28 individuals are still missing.
The three officials were dismissed following a report from the Inspector General of Government (IGG) that linked the disaster to the negligence of the KCCA technical team, which was under Kisaka’s leadership at the time.
