A video circulating on various social media platforms captures a shocking incident involving a woman who violently confronted a traffic police officer for simply asking for her driving license.
In the footage, the officer’s cap falls to the ground after the woman, shouting loudly, slaps him.
Despite the provocation, the officer remained composed, bending down to retrieve his cap, only to be attacked once more.
Remarkably, he did not retaliate; instead, he focused on removing the vehicle’s number plate before fleeing the scene.
Onlookers were quick to condemn the woman’s behavior, voicing their disapproval and criticizing her for her blatant disrespect towards an officer merely performing his duties.
Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the woman, identified as Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha. Investigations reveal that the incident occurred after the traffic officer from Jinja Road Police Station attempted to stop a white Toyota Land Cruiser (registration No. UBM 439T) driven by Bashisha, who was allegedly involved in an accident around 11:55am on October 18, 2024.
Despite the officer’s signals, she reportedly ignored him and continued driving while using her phone. After finally stopping at the Lugogo Traffic Lights, she parked at the Uganda Manufacturers Association and locked her vehicle.
When the officer requested her driving permit, she allegedly resorted to intimidation and ultimately assaulted him.
She even went further to confiscate the police Express Penalty Scheme (EPS) gadget, and the two phones belonging to the police officer.
“She is currently under detention as investigations are being conducted,” the police noted in a press statement.
