On October 31, 2024, at approximately 12:45 AM, Enid Naginda, a 24-year-old waitress employed at Luve Restaurant in Kololo and living in Kayiwa zone, reported an aggravated robbery to the Wandegeya Police Station.
She claimed that armed assailants on motorcycles attacked her at Nakasero, between Fairway Hotel and Blood Bank Road, stealing her bag that contained 50,000 shillings and a mobile phone.
The police swiftly responded to the incident and apprehended Stephen Sserwanyiri, a 34-year-old boda boda rider from Kirinyabigo Kawanda, as he attempted to flee on motorcycle registration number UFM 529C. A search revealed a panga, the stolen bag with the cash, and the mobile phone in his possession.
Sserwanyiri admitted to orchestrating the robbery alongside Robert Mukisa, a 24-year-old boda boda rider from Lubowa zone Nabweru, and Jamir Mutaawe. The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said the officers from Wandegeya Police Station apprehended Robert Mukisa and seized the motorcycle, registration number UFJ 348M, that was utilized during the crime.
During a search of their residence, authorities discovered a military-style hood.
Jamir Mutaawe, identified as the gang’s leader, was also taken into custody and revealed that they had targeted locations such as Nakasero, Northern Bypass, Namugona, Kololo, Spear Motors, Golf Course, and Wandegeya.
The suspects were returned to several of the crime scenes for a reconstruction of events.
