The government has launched a new project that will see over 400,000 residents of Masaka city and neighbouring areas get safe and clean water.
The project encompasses the laying of 38 kilometers of transmission pipelines along with the construction of a new water reservoir at Kako Hill.
The managing director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha revealed that the project will cost approximately 189 billion shillings and will be complete by March 2027.
“This project will involve the construction of a water treatment plant at Bukakata on L. Victoria, after which 38 kilometers of water transmission line will be laid including a booster station as well as a water tank at Kako Hill, this tank will have a capacity of two million Litres and after that they will start laying distribution lines”
Once completed the project will enhance water accessibility in Masaka city and surrounding areas serving over 400,000 people; the NWSC has called for cooperation from residents and local leaders where the project will take place.
” This is a very important project, it started some time ago but we faced some delays because we had to change from getting water from underground to now getting it from the surface of Lake Victoria.
Mugisha is optimistic that once complete, the project will improve thousands of livelihoods with Masaka and neighbouring areas; ” Masaka has suffered with the problem of inadequate water at the production site that is why we’ve had issues of water rationing, sometimes some places do not get water at all and that problem has to be addressed and the solution is this project.”
Marc Grechi, the country director of SOGEA, the company contracted for the project on behalf of the French Development Agency aassured the government that they will do a good job and come March 2027 the project will be completed.
“We thank the NWSC for bringing us on board in this important project and all I ask if for your support, we promise we shall deliver as expected”
