Issac Kyagaba, a well-known Kampala-City Lawyer, and PT HRTC Exploration and Production have vehemently refuted claims that they are involved in a gold scam worth Shs18 billion as was publicised recently by online media outlet. In separate official statements, Kyagaba and the company called the accusations false, misleading, and defamatory.
The said online media outlet reported that Kyagaba was allegedly implicated in a fraudulent gold transaction in which he reportedly received USD 500,000 (approximately shs1.9B) without remitting it to authorities and presented a fake customs declaration form. However, through his legal representatives, Kirunda & Co. Advocates, Kyagaba has refuted these claims, calling them “false and malicious.”
In a statement released by Kyagaba’s lawyers of Kirunda and Company Advocates revealed that thier client never involved in the said scandal.
“He did not orchestrate any fraudulent scheme, neither is he implicated in one. Mr. Kyagaba has not at any time received the sum of $500,000 from PT HRTC Exploration and Production (PT HRTC) for any gold transaction as the story alleges,” said in the statement, adding that “He did not issue any Customs Declaration Form from the Uganda Revenue Authority, genuine or highly questionable, relating to the alleged gold transaction, to any party at any time.”
