Police at Katwe Division are investigating a tragic fire outbreak that occurred on 6th April 2025, at around 10:00 a.m. in Kibiri B Zone, Busabala Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out in a three-room residential house belonging to one Nabukeera Faridah, who is currently out of the country.
According to the police reports, at the time of the incident, the house was being occupied by her sister, Namwanje Margret, along with her 3-year-old nephew, Ssegujja Jeremiah.
The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said the minor is suspected to have died due to suffocation while asleep, while Namwanje sustained minor burns. The fire destroyed two rooms, sparing only the bedroom, which suffered minimal damage. A percolator and fridge have been identified as potential sources of the fire.
“Police responded swiftly and documented the scene. The body has been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination. Investigations are ongoing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time,” he added.
