KARAMOJA: ADRA Uganda together with Organization for Peace, Relief and Development (OPRD), and Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) has unveiled a new project in Karamojaregion dubbed “STRENGTH” project. The two and a half years project will primarily tackle Climate threats in the region.
Karamoja region is highly vulnerable to climate change, facing increasing temperatures, erratic rainfall, and more frequent droughts and floods, which negatively impact food security, livelihoods, and resource availability.
The 4.8 million USD project funded by DANIDA (Danish MoFa) aiming at minimizing and addressing loss and damage from climate change in karamoja and acholi regions in Uganda in the districts of Karenga and Kabong plus some parts of South Sudan.

While launching the project in Kampala, the program director Karina Lynge from the ADRA Denmark, the lead partner said that the project targets to Strengthen community-based climate adaptation in Uganda & South Sudan towards minimising loss of natural resources and livelihoods in Kabong, Karenga, Lamwo, and Kitgum. Other partners include Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the Danish Family Planning Association (DFPA)
Mr. Benon Babumba, the programs director at ADRA Uganda said the STRENGTH project is a resilience climate change and protection which will compliment the government efforts in climate change, food security and gender equality and empowerment in karamoja and Acholi regions, plus refugees in Palabek district and Kitgum using modern agriculture methods
” We are going to help the farmers with farmer market and field school, solar irrigation, value addition, environment conservation” he said.
George Williams Kiberu, the field program manager at ADRA Uganda stated, “this project will address climate change, one of the issues that affect Uganda and South Sudan using modern methodologies like farmer field school and agro pastoral field with the help of FAO Uganda to mitigate weather and climate related shocks to improve natural resource use.”
