The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua today advocated for reflection and renewal as Christians world over celebrate the Ash Wednesday.

Obua, who is also the head of laity for the Anglican community in Parliament, welcomed the Archbishop, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kazimba to Parliament to preside over the Ash Wednesday Holy Communion service, graced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.

In his remarks, the Government Chief Whip applauded the Archbishop for honoring the invitation to Parliament and always keeping close to the Christian community at Parliament.

“On behalf of all the Christians and believers in Parliament, I welcome the Archbishop and commend his fervent commitment to our spiritual needs,” said Obu.

He also commend the magnetic and high voltage sermon of His Grace to the Christians at Parliament.

“Ash Wednesday being the first day of the 40 days Jesus Christ endured in the wilderness is a critical period for us as leaders,” said Obua.

He underscored the significance of reflection and renewal during this special period.

“This is a period of reflection and renewing our faiths in the Lord. Let us be driven by integrity, compassion and justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Archbishop appealed to the political leaders to mend fences irrespective of their political inclinations.

“In this period, I expect NRM leaders to be talking to NUP leaders, UPC talking to FDC and all others,” said Dr. Kaziimba.

The Deputy Speaker also called on the fellow leaders to practice and live the prayers they say in churches and mosques.

“The prayers we say here in church are more than rituals. We need to practice when we say, “Lord forgive us and let us forgive those who trespass against us,” said Rt. Hon. Tayebwa.
