TOURISM: The British High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Lisa Chesney, MBE, hosted a high-level meeting at her residence, bringing together key leadership from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), and the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA).

In attendance were UWA Executive Director Dr. James Musinguzi (PhD), UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa, Commissioner for Tourism at MTWA Lyazzi Vivian, UWA Director of Tourism Masaba Stephen, and other senior representatives from these institutions.

The meeting focused on identifying strategic areas of collaboration between the United Kingdom and Uganda in the fields of tourism and conservation.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation to enhance Uganda’s visibility and competitiveness in the UK tourism market, while also promoting conservation and sustainability-focused initiatives.

Key items on the agenda included:

  • Support for the upcoming “Name a Rhino” campaign, aimed at mobilizing international awareness and resources for rhino conservation efforts in Uganda.
  • Tourism product development and refinement, to ensure Uganda offers tailored, high-quality travel experiences that resonate with British tourists, with a focus on sustainability, authenticity, and community engagement.

The meeting reflects a continued commitment by both parties to foster long-term partnerships that support Uganda’s tourism growth and biodiversity conservation goals.
