KENYA – British man tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle from the motorcade of Kenyan President William Ruto.
According to reports, the 79-year-old Edgar Charles Frederick was fatally injured on Thursday (March 13, 2025) when he was struck on a major road in Nairobi, the capital city.
Authorities have apprehended a driver linked to the incident, who has since been released on bail. This individual was operating a support vehicle positioned at the back of President Ruto’s official convoy.
The police reports that the president’s entourage had already passed when the collision took place.
Police spokesman, Michael Muchiri noted that the deceased was in Kenya to visit his sister and nephew, who reside in Kenya.
The victim’s family has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place later on Friday.
The driver, who did not stop after the accident, is set to face court proceedings following an ongoing investigation.
This not the first time a president’s motorcade has killed a pedestrian.
A spokesperson for the UK High Commission said officials were aware of the reports and were seeking more information.
