The Ministry of Works and Transport has reported via their X account, previously known as Twitter that the Busega-Mpigi Expressway project is currently at 43.55% complete and expected to be completed in 2027.
On Friday, Minister of Works Gen. Katumba Wamala conducted an inspection to evaluate the ongoing challenges and explore how the ministry can intervene to prevent further delays.
The update stated, “Construction works on the 23.7 km Expressway, designed to significantly alleviate traffic congestion on the Masaka highway, are currently at 43.55% completion.”
This highly anticipated project will feature a primary dual expressway with four lanes, four interchanges, 13 bridges, and four toll plazas, along with an additional 21 km of connecting roads, all expected to be finalized by August 2027.
The Ministry indicated that this initiative will greatly enhance trade and logistics along the Northern Corridor, benefiting routes to Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The interchanges and connecting roads will also improve access to the Northern Bypass, Entebbe Expressway, and Mityana Road.
It is anticipated that these interchanges will facilitate a smoother traffic flow, simplifying the movement of goods in and out of Kampala and beyond.
As excitement grows, the Busega-Mpigi Expressway is set to become a significant advancement in Uganda’s transportation infrastructure, promising a more efficient and brighter future for both travelers and businesses.
