Leaders from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have convened in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, for a crucial summit focused on finding a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) involving the M23 rebels.
Among the attendees is Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who initiated the summit and encouraged DRC President H.E. Tshisekedi to engage directly with those in opposition, emphasizing the regional implications of the conflict. “This summit is the ideal platform to tackle this issue, and I look forward to productive discussions,” Museveni shared on his official X account, previously known as Twitter.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who has consistently denied backing the rebels, is also present, alongside his rival Tshisekedi and other regional leaders. Ugnewsline captured the meeting in stunning photographs all by Tony Rujuta/PPU. Enjoy!
