Eco Concrete Ltd, a Ugandan company dedicated to sustainable construction, has unveiled innovative eco-friendly cement binders LPGC, GPC, and LC3 that reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% while lowering production costs.
“These products utilise local materials like volcanic ash, contributing to environmental preservation and supporting local communities.” said Dr. Apollo Buregeya, CEO of Eco Concrete, during stakeholders conference that the company hosted at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
In his remarks, Dr Appolo emphasised the importance of low-carbon, energy-efficient solutions, calling up on stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices.
“The planned factory in Rubanda District will enhance the region’s economy through job creation, raw material supply, and infrastructure development.” He said .
On his part, project manager, Mr. Geoffrey Olanya, highlighted the benefits of green cement, including affordability, low emissions, and environmental sustainability.
According to him, the initiative has gained support from partners such as WWF, UNDP, and the European Union, alongside government and university representatives.
Rubanda District Mayor, Mr. Norman Tushabe, commended the project for its economic potential.
The innovation was applauded by multiple stakeholders for aligning with Uganda’s growth and sustainable development goals.
Sources from the company have revealed that the cement is currently in its pilot phase, with plans to bring it to market after the Rubanda plant is operational.
