A vehicle has been intercepted by the police on the Kampala-Masaka Highway due to allegations of reckless driving, which included speeding and careless overtaking.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the traffic police, stated that the driver ignored orders to stop from the officers, who were acting on directives from the Director of Traffic and Road Safety, who happened to be also traveling the same route.
The driver not only refused to comply but also exhibited increasingly aggressive behavior.
“The driver was eventually intercepted at a checkpoint in Kyabadaza, where inspections revealed an expired permit, illegal sirens, and modified lights,” he noted.
Kananura said the driver was charged and detained at Mpigi Police Station, pending a court appearance.
He stressed that the incident serves as a stark reminder that reckless driving will not be tolerated.
“Such behavior not only endangers the driver’s own life but also the lives of other road users. We urge all road users to exercise caution, courtesy, and responsibility when using the road,” he added.
