Kasese, Uganda – Police in Hima Division, Rwenzori East Region, are investigating a fatal road crash that occurred early this morning along the Fort Portal–Kasese Road, claiming the life of a 25-year-old pedestrian.

The deceased, identified as Gaddafi Jabeli, was struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle at approximately 6:05 a.m. The tragic incident unfolded within Hima Division, Kasese District.

According to police reports, officers led by Division Police Commander (DPC) Suzan Bwire Nerima, along with traffic personnel, swiftly responded to the scene. Jabeli was immediately rushed to Bishop Masereka Hospital in Kasese Municipality. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m.

The vehicle involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene, and efforts are underway to trace the driver and vehicle responsible.

Speaking on behalf of the police, Kasese Regional Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime urged all motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and exercise caution on the roads.

“This tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety. We urge drivers to respect speed limits and remain vigilant to protect the lives of all road users,” said SP Tumushime.

Investigations into the crash continue, and police have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information.
