A once-committed law enforcer, dedicated to combating crime, has now found himself on the wrong side of the law. Can you picture a hunter becoming the hunted?
This will undoubtedly be a story that former Police Constable Issac Newton Ojok will remember for the rest of his life. Currently incarcerated, he was apprehended by his former colleagues still serving police officers for allegedly impersonating a traffic officer in Kampala.
It was later revealed that Ojok had already been dismissed from the Uganda Police Force (UPF) due to disciplinary issues.
The 36-year-old was taken into custody by Old Kampala police for unlawfully confiscating motorcycles while masquerading as a traffic officer.
“On September 19, 2024, at around 1900 hours, Police Constable Ojok Isaac Newton, was apprehended by the Old Kampala police for unlawfully impounding motorcycles on the Queensway Flyover that feeds into Entebbe Road while posing as a traffic officer,” the police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma noted.
Kituuma disclosed that the incident occurred after Ojok had been dismissed from the police force. Ojok, who had previously served in the Counter-Terrorism Unit, was let go due to disciplinary issues.
Despite his termination, he allegedly continued to impersonate as a traffic officer and engaged in unauthorized activities.
Kituuma said the former officer would face legal consequences for his actions.
Investigations indicate that Ojok was allegedly seizing boda bodas and demanding a bribe of 50,000 Ugandan shillings for their release.
This prompted numerous complaints from disgruntled boda boda operators, leading to his arrest. Kituuma reiterated the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to taking decisive action against impersonators and urged the public to report any suspicious individuals they encounter.
