The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, hosted his South Sudanese counterpart, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, with a dinner to honor his visit.
At the gathering held at Serena Kigo, the military leaders underscored the importance of unity for the advancement of both nations.
Gen. Wol was accompanied by a delegation from the South Sudanese Defence Forces (SSDF), while Gen. Kainerugaba was joined by notable figures including the Inspector General of Police, Abbas Byakagaba, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabashaija, the Director-General of the External Security Organisation, Joseph Ocwet, and the head of the Internal Security Organisation, Charles Oluka.
Other officers present included Deputy CDF, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, UPDF Air Force Commander, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, the Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, and the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, Maj Gen James Birungi. The 4 Division Commander, Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, and the 5 Division Commander, Brig Gen Keith Katungi.
Gen. Wol highlighted the strong connections between the people of Uganda and South Sudan, declaring, “we are one people.”
He expressed his surprise during a visit to Kampala, particularly at Arua Park, where he encountered a significant number of South Sudanese.
He extended his gratitude to Gen. Kainerugaba for the warm hospitality, noting how well he was treated.
In response, Gen. Kainerugaba appreciated the visit and emphasized that the two nations’ militaries were poised to embark on a new chapter of strengthened relations for the benefit of both countries.
The dinner followed an afternoon meeting at the Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters, where Gen Kainerugaba and Gen Wol engaged in discussions about regional security matters of shared concern.
