The government has acquired 2 square miles of land in Kayunga district, which will be developed to host a cutting-edge automotive manufacturing plant alongside an Automotive Industrial Park.
This manufacturing facility will focus on producing new small saloon cars, light pickup trucks, and SUVs.
The development was made by the minister of science, technology and innovation office of the president Dr.Monica Musenero Masanza last week during an exclusive interview with this website.
The minister further revealed that they have secured the 2 square miles of land in Kayunga district for this mega project which is exclusively under the Kiira Motors Corporation Uganda Project and that the area district local government council has already passed and approved a special resolution for the prefeasibility plans for the project.
She noted that they are currently sourcing out for funds from the government to kick start the project which begins with connecting electricity, fixing water and general road Network as well as parceling out pieces of land plots to be taken up by willing investors who would help government in manufacturing of all types of spare parts of the vehicles.
She pointed out that the Automotive Industrial park project shall host both a special Automotive training institute to empower the young graduate’s with knowledge exclusively in the general construction of vehicles technologies, plumbing, electrical and electronics technology systems, vehicle wiring, painting, repairs and welding among others.
What we are doing is to set up a special Automotive training institute at Kayunga with the purpose of skilling hundreds of youths with knowledge of working on a vehicle system while the park would be set up for potential investors who can set up manufacturing facilities for spare parts.
“We are looking at ensuring that 65% of all spare parts are manufactured locally from Uganda which strategy gives outright jobs to thousands of educated Ugandans,” she pointed out.
The minister urged the citizens of kayunga and surrounding districts to ready themselves for this job bonanza because these are fruits of the NRM administration which must benefit all those that have the skills to tap into the vast project.
