Kampala, Uganda– High Sound for Children, a child-focused nonprofit organization, has received a donation of sewing and knitting machines to support its efforts in skilling teenage mothers under the Gold Star Skilling Program in Ssebaggala Zone, Kawempe.
The donated equipment, aimed at empowering young mothers who conceived at an early age, will be used to provide practical vocational training in tailoring and knitting.
The initiative seeks to enhance self-reliance and improve the livelihoods of these vulnerable young women.
The donation was facilitated by Tools with a Mission through the Mindset Development Organization.
During the official handover ceremony, Maureen Mugisha, Head of Mindset Development Organization, urged the Government of Uganda to consider waiving taxes on skilling tools such as sewing and knitting machines. She stressed that making these tools more accessible would significantly benefit vulnerable groups, especially teenage mothers.
“Our work as High Sound for Children started here in Kawempe. As a child-centered media organization, we are committed to giving back to this community by supporting teenage mothers,” said Hadijah Mwanje, Executive Director of High Sound for Children.
“This support is a big step towards helping them gain stability and independence. When young mothers acquire hands-on skills, they are better positioned to support themselves and their families.” she added.
The Gold Star Skilling Program has already supported over 40 child mothers, offering not only vocational training but also psychosocial support and referrals to legal and other essential services.
