Mike Tyson, commonly known as Iron Mike, is a name that resonates with boxing fans everywhere. His reputation was built on the ferocious punches he delivered to opponents during the 1990s. As a young heavyweight champion, he was one of the most celebrated undisputed boxers of his era.
Fast forward nearly three decades, and the 58-year-old Tyson shocked the world by announcing a match against 28-year-old Jake Paul.
This highly anticipated fight faced several delays due to Tyson’s health issues from time to time. Finally, on November 15, 2024, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived.
Tyson faced Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, but ultimately lost by unanimous decision.
The bout itself was not particularly thrilling, largely due to the significant age gap between the two fighters.
While Tyson appeared to be in decent physical condition, his slower movements in the ring made it clear that defeating a young, agile, and skilled boxer like Jake Paul would be a tall order.
Despite the obstacles, Tyson managed to go the distance, completing all eight rounds. He started strong in the first two rounds but struggled with speed and footwork by the third.
In the 90s, Jake Paul would have stood no chance against the legendary heavyweight champion, who was known for his power and speed. After the fight, Tyson took to social media to share insights about the fight and his challenges.
He expressed that despite the loss, he felt victorious in many ways, stating there were no regrets about stepping into the ring ‘one last time’.
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” Tyson said in a social media post.
He added: “I’m grateful for last night. No regrets getting in the ring one last time. I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboys stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
But Tyson is reported to have gone home with a staggering $20 million.
