Kampala International University-KIU, is soon launching the first private cancer and heart institutes and celebrating 25th years.
Al hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Kampala International University, during the 30th graduation stated that the heart and cancer institutes will cost $60 million.
According to him, the European Union will be providing 30 percent of the funding on this project.
Al hajji Basajjabalaba also used the platform and announced that the university will introduce the first-ever Neurosurgery training program at KIU.
In his message to graduands, Al hajji Basajjabalaba advised them to manage their lives well and maintain high levels of honesty and also use the knowledge aquired to transform thier communities. .
On his part, Professor Yunus Mgaya the University Chancellor said that “Kampala International University is also becoming a hub for knowledge creation and innovation atributing it to the ongoing research initiatives.
At the graduation, Professor Mondo Kagonyera, the former Chancellor at Makerere University urged universities to vigilantly utilize artificial intelligence as it can both transform the economy if utilized positively but also can destroy it in case used negatively.
Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi who was the guest of honour, asked graduates to embrace technology and artificial intelligence to advance their careers.
According to Baryomunsi, government is working on a policy to regulate the use of artificial intelligence.
“In order to address the increasing unemployment, government is working to create opportunities both within Uganda and abroad” Baryomunsi said.
The 30th graduation ceremony saw a total of 2,276 students both male and female graduating in various disciplines.
