The police in Katwe are investigating the sudden death of a man that took place on October 4, 2024, within Crusader Church, situated in Masajja A cell, Masajja Division, Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
The incident occurred around 11:00am.
As per a statement from Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan area, the deceased has been identified as Cyrus Sengiyunva, a 49-year-old businessman residing in Jaana Village, Bubeke Sub-County, Kalangala District.
He had attended overnight prayers at Crusader Church and was discovered unresponsive by fellow congregants as they were preparing to leave the service.
His friends quickly alerted the church management, who then notified the police.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement conducted a comprehensive examination of the scene before transferring the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
He said eyewitness statements have been collected to support the ongoing investigation.
Wife killed in domestic dispute
In a separate case the police in the same area in Katwe are investigating a murder incident involving a local resident identified as Saadi Maganda, who allegedly ended the life of his wife following a domestic dispute.
The incident was reported by the Defense Secretary of Kanyanya Zone in Ndejje Parish.
Maganda allegedly admitted to the Defense Secretary that he had taken the life of his wife, Faridah Aliba, 20.
Reports suggest that during the confrontation, Maganda stabbed Aliba in the neck, leading to her immediate death. After committing the act, he turned himself in to the authorities.
The police acted quickly, securing the scene of the crime and collecting vital evidence, including a knife stained with blood and a stone.
“These items have been preserved as evidence for the ongoing investigation. The body of the victim has been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination,” Owoyesigyire noted.
He stressed that the law enforcement is diligently working to uncover the motive behind this heartbreaking event.
