The Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has met the widow of Yasin Kawuma, the slain driver of National Unity Platform (NUP) party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
Annet Nansubuga who lives in a rented Muzigo in Lusanja village, Kasangati Town Council in Wakiso district narrated to Nabbanja the untold suffering they are going through as a family since the demise of the husband who was a sole bread winner.
These among others include lack of shelter and income to raise fees and other necessities for the family.
According to Nansubuga, Kawuma’s death left them hopeless revealing that Kyagulanyi and NUP have not helped them in any way despite several promises after his death.
In her response, Nabbanja pledged that her office would buy land and build a house for Nansubuga and her children.
Yasin Kawuma, a long-time serving driver of NUP’s Kyagulanyi was shot dead in Arua town in August 2018 following skirmishes involving security and the supporters of Kasiano Wadri, who was one of the candidates in Arua municipality parliamentary by-elections.
According to Police, the chaos started after some people donning Wadri’s campaign t-shirts pelted the president’s convoy with stones as President, Yoweri Museveni who was leaving Boma grounds where he had attended the last campaign rally for the NRM party candidate, Nusura Tiperu.
