A notorious criminal was shot dead in Mukono during a robbery attempt in the early hours of December 13, 2024. The incident took place around 2:30 AM in Katwe-Bukerere village, located in Bukerere ward, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, a gang of eight suspected armed thugs wielding pangas, launched an attack on several homes in the vicinity, stealing various valuables.
Among the victims was Robert Mugabe, a 45-year-old local resident, who had his motor vehicle, laptop, and Samsung television taken.
Another victim, Kisule Rogers, a 41-year-old employee of the Medical Research Council, lost his loudspeakers, television, wallet, important documents, cash, and two mobile phones.
He stressed that during the assault, the thugs resorted to violence, using pangas to injure the victims. Fortunately, one of the victim’s wives managed to alert a neighbor who had a private security guard.
The guard swiftly intervened, fatally shooting one of the robbers and injuring two others, who managed to flee despite their wounds.
The stolen motor vehicle and other items were recovered, along with four pangas and various tools used for breaking and entering, found at the scene.
The deceased thug, identified as Lubyanza, a bodaboda rider, was also located.
Initial investigations indicate that the robbers are likely residents of Bukerere and Nabusugwe, who used the stolen vehicle to conceal their identities. Mukono Police have cordoned off the area for further investigation, which is currently underway.
