The NRM election disputes tribunal has declared Pius Wakabi, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bugahya Constituency in Hoima District, as the winner of the recently conducted NRM parliamentary primary elections.
This development stems from an error made by the district registrar, who initially declared Tumusiime as the winner. However, following protests by Wakabi’s supporters, the registrar swiftly reversed the decision and announced Wakabi as the winner—a move that escalated tensions and prompted Tumusiime to petition the tribunal.
On Friday, the tribunal upheld Wakabi’s victory, stating that he was the duly elected NRM flag bearer for Bugahya Constituency. Wakabi welcomed the ruling, saying the tribunal had finally resolved the tensions, which had reached a breaking point. He also urged Tumusiime, the former RDC of Kikuube District, to join him in unity for the good of the party.
Tumusiime was not available for comment by press time.
