A total of 80 suspected notorious criminals have been arrested across different locations in Kampala.
Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan area, reported that the arrests were as a result of an intelligence-driven operation carried out in collaboration with local leaders in the Central Business District at approximately 8:00am on January 22, 2025.
The operation specifically targeted individuals who gathered in known black spots, engaged in drug use, and subsequently perpetrated various crimes against unsuspecting citizens.
Onyango said the arrests took place in areas such as Clock Tower, Good Shade, and Cooper Complex, where the suspects were found with suspected narcotic substances.
He said the suspects were later charged and taken to Kampala Central Police Station, where they remain detained pending court processes.
He noted that the operation is part of a broader initiative to eliminate criminal activities in the Central Business District, aiming to create a safer environment for the community.
