Police in Kasese District, are holding two individuals accused of extorting money from the public while posing as security personnel.
One of the suspects, Isaac Kamalha, a resident of Railway Ward in Kasese Municipality, was apprehended and detained at the Kasese Central Police Station.
Police reports indicate that Kamalha had been impersonating the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) for the Central Division.
The identity of the second person who has been impersonating as a member of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) in Kasese town, remains undisclosed.
Luke Mbusa, the Regional Community Liaisons Officer, noted that the suspects’ connections with certain security operatives may have given them the confidence to engage in these fraudulent activities.
Enid Ninsiima, the GISO for the Central Division, reported that he (Kamalha) unlawfully attended a workshop organized by the Great Lakes Peace Centre at the Central Division Council Hall, where he falsely signed the attendance list as the GISO.
She noted that her pursuit of Kamalha’s arrest was prompted after discovering that he had signed forms for individuals applying for National Identity Cards earlier this year, an action well beyond his authority.
Kamalha is also accused of extorting money from a school proprietor in Kasese town, misrepresenting himself as a representative of the Kasese Resident District Commissioner. The public is urged to stay alert and report any instances of impersonation or extortion.
