On 12 Dec. 24, at around 1500 hours, a victim, Emmanuel Kafeero, a 30-year-old resident of Masanda zone, Kyengera Town Council, was ambushed by two men armed with a panga, four knives, and a stick while on Busega road heading to Mityana.
The Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said the thugs dragged Kafeero deep into the swamp, tortured him, and robbed him of his phone, shs20,000 and 20 packets of yogurt, valued at shs700,000.
Kafeero was held hostage until around 2100 hours, when the suspects fled.
Kafeero is said to have reported the incident to Busega police station.
In a follow-up operation, police and UPDF officers arrested one suspect, identified as Henry Kizito, a 19-year-old boda-boda rider, while his accomplice escaped.
Kizito is currently detained at Nateete Police Station.
Onyango said a case of aggravated robbery has been registered, and statements have been obtained from kafeero, witnesses, and the suspect.
Exhibits recovered include a panga, four new knives, and a metallic rod.
He said one suspect was injured during the operation and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital under police guard, pending further investigations.
