The Police are holding two suspects following a foiled robbery in Kikoni A Zone, Makerere 1 Parish, Kawempe Division.
According to the police report, one other suspect identifies as Muran Lumala aka Asumani was also fatally shot and his body was taken to KCCA Mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem examination.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, said Wandegeya Police Division foiled the robbery on April 17, 2025, at around 8:30am, after receiving information about a group of armed men on motorcycles near Chez traffic lights and promptly responded.
During the operation, two suspects including: Sharon Ssemwanga Sharon an 18-year-old student at YMCA, resident of Salama, Makindye Division and Richard Nyenya Richard, a 17-year-old peasant, resident of Mutungo Bina, Nakawa Division were apprehended.
He said a motorcycle: registration number UMA 513AL, and a panga which was being used by the suspects to intimidate victims were recovered.
He noted that two of the suspects managed to elude the police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Onyango emphasized the importance of community engagement, timely intelligence, and rapid deployment in preventing crime escalation.
He stressed that police plans to increase patrols in the area and work with community leaders to develop programs providing opportunities and skills for young individuals to deter them from engaging in crime.
