Several suspects were arrested, and evidence was recovered with the assistance of the police canine unit.
On the morning of November 19, 2024, law enforcement in Mityana responded to a burglary incident involving a break-in at a shop owned by a resident of Nayankumbi village, located in the Kimuli Maanyi sub-county of Mityana district.
The police dog, named Whisky, guided officers to the home of Isaya Lutalo, who identified two additional suspects, Gerald Kiggundu and Ronald Ssali.
Items recovered included cash, bread, cooking oil, and soap.
The following day, November 20, 2024, at approximately 4:00am, another resident of Bulyantete village in Lugazi municipality, Buikwe district, was assaulted by robbers who stole his possessions.
Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma reported that the introduction of a police dog at the scene led officers to the residence of an individual named Kato, who subsequently named four other suspects who remain at large.
A search of Kato’s home resulted in the recovery of various items belonging to the victim.
In a separate incident, a resident of Nyamirambi cell in Rugando parish, Kyeshero sub-county, Kanungu District reported the theft of two sacks of dry coffee and three basins of beans.
“When police of Kanungu introduced canine to the scene of crime, it led them to the residence Tumuhamye Ronald. A search was conduct in Ronald’s house leading to the recovery of dry coffee. He went ahead to name Joy Ndyagunwoha as the one he sold the coffee,” he added.
A separate residence was examined, resulting in the recovery of two bags of dry coffee.
On the evening of November 22, 2024, individuals trespassed onto the coffee plantation of a local resident in Nakaseke district, Nakanswa village, Kito sub-county, and gathered coffee berries.
“He reported the matter to police in Kiwoko and canine was introduced to the scene. It led police officers to one of the stores. The owner of the store revealed the source of the coffee as Bogere Kazibwe (42) a resident of the same area,” he added.
The police successfully apprehended one Bogere, who subsequently confessed to the theft, according to Kituuma.
