The police in Katwe are conducting an investigation into the deaths of two individuals employed at a steel factory in Sembule, Kabowa Parish, located in the Rubaga Division, Kampala.
The incident reportedly occurred this morning, October 17, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan area, stated that the incident appears to be linked to suspected negligence.
Initial reports suggest that Andrajt Baraya, an Indian national, and Amos, a Ugandan national, were operating an oxygen plant during their shift when a gas cylinder exploded, leading to their immediate fatalities.
“The Police, together with experts, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion and working to determine its cause. We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses,” he noted.
Police extended their heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and reassured the community that a comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to uncover the details related to this tragic incident.
