The World Freestyle Football Association and Predator Energy have unveiled the 2024 edition of the National Freestyle Football Championship in Uganda
The 2024 Predator Energy Ugandan Freestyle Football Championship, The first of its kind, was held at Namungoona playground in Kampala on 6th December 2024, featuring a 1 by 1 Battles tournament open to both men and women in separate categories.
The competition has offered extraordinary awards to its winners, including the following; 1st Place: $500 USD, 2nd Place: $250 USD, and 3rd Place: $100 USD.
Dan Wood, Head of Partnerships and founder of World Freestyle Football Association, WFFA, said, “We are super excited to partner with a brand as prestigious as Predator Energy for the Ugandan Freestyle Football Championship 2024. We are really thankful for their commitment to energising the incredible local Freestyle Football community in Uganda and can’t wait to kick off this fantastic tournament!”.
He added that “We’re here in Uganda to build the first ever Ugandan freestyle championships so that we can crown a male and a female winner. Freestyle competition is a fusion of dance, acrobatics, music, and a football way for young people to express themselves. You don’t need teachers, You don’t need teammates. So we’re a brand new sport. We could get Olympic sports in the future, and that’s why we’re making as many events around the world to find talent and help them to be the best versions of themselves.
“We work across the whole globe. We’ve previously been into Kenya in East Africa. So what we wanted to do is to create a bit of a road so that we could reach out to as many countries as possible. And we knew there was some talent here. We did this through social media. We found a few freestylers. So we thought the time was right to actually build a competition here” he said during the launch at Namungoona play ground.
“Freestyle Football is an open discipline for anyone. It’s an individual sport. So we have boys and girls on stage, male and female. We have separate competitions, but they could even compete against each other if they chose to. How it works is, there’s a live judging panel who are experts in the sport, and they’re looking for originality of the moves, difficulty of the moves, the execution overall, of how they perform on stage, and generally, how much control are they using all of the body so there’s a scoring system that the judges are looking for whilst they’re performing round one is a routine. They have one minute each to do as many skills they will then be ranked, and that will determine who they battle against in the second round. And the second battle just like break dancing, but with a ball in the middle. So they have three minutes to outperform with their opponent, “ explained.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the WFFA in delivering the 2024 Predator Energy Freestyle Football Championship. This is another step towards our mission to build fans of our brands and to add value to local communities through football. The WFFA is already making an impact in that respect, so we’re keen to see how we can take this to the next level.” Said, Vienna Mukabana, regional marketing manager, Predator Energy
