On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited the family of the late State Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, in Kisoro District to pay his respects and to lay a wreath in her memory. Mateke, who served as the Kisoro District Women MP, passed away on September 7, 2024, at the age of 50.
The family welcomed President Museveni at their residence, with Dr. Philemon Mateke, the Kisoro District NRM chairperson and father of the deceased minister, leading the reception.
During his visit, the President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
“I have come to stand with you in this time of grief. Mateke was my daughter who had a good soul. She made a significant impact and left a legacy,” President Museveni said.
President Museveni’s visit highlighted the close relationship he has with Mateke and his dedication to assisting her family during this challenging period.
Following his expression of condolences, the President placed a wreath in honor of the late minister, representing his respect and remembrance.
Dr. Mateke conveyed his appreciation for the President’s visit, recognizing the profound respect extended to his daughter.
Through his official X account formerly twitter the president wrote: “I also took the opportunity to visit the family of the late Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke and pay my respects. Mateke was a person of good character who made a significant impact and left behind a lasting legacy”.
The president is in Kisoro to canvas votes for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the Kisoro Woman MP byelection on November 14, 2024.
