KAGADI: President Yoweri Museveni has saluted the former Buyaga County MP Ignatius Besiisira for his outstanding contribution towards the socio-economic transformation of Uganda.
“Besiisira has departed from us after rendering distinguished service to Uganda. His family and the country take pride in his remarkable achievements and legacy,” President Museveni said.
He passed on last Sunday (January 12) after a long illness.
President Museveni told mourners that leaders are like social doctors because they are expected to find an effective cure to the challenges of society.
“It is therefore sad that we have lost a loyal cadre and champion of the people’s interests,” he said in an eulogy delivered by the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, in Kagadi district yesterday.
He told mourners that the death of Hon. Ignatius Besiisira has robbed the country of a dedicated servant, who followed the NRM’s correct ideology of championing the people’s legitimate interests.
He said in the NRM that they consider leadership as an opportunity to solve the problems of society, i.e., insecurity, poverty, diseases, among others.
He asked the people of Kagadi not only to mourn Besiisira’s death but also to celebrate his life and legacy.
On behalf of the government, the NRM Party, and on my own behalf, the president extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, the people of Buyaga, and all Ugandans upon losing such a dedicated servant.
“My prayers and thoughts are with his family at this trying moment. May the Almighty God grant you the courage and fortitude to go through this moment of loss and sorrow,” he said.
The vice president, Alupo, in her own eulogy, told mourners that she was privileged to work with Besiisira in parliament.
“He has been a man of African character. He loved Uganda as a whole. He has been very active in the fight against cattle rustling in Eastern Uganda, and he loved his family,” Alupo said.
She appealed to the people of Kagadi to pick a leaf from his legacy.
Main celebrant Fr. Peter Kaberenge Akiiki, the episcopal vicar of Kagadi Vicariate, asked Christians to emulate Jesus by living a humble life filled with the spirit of reconciliation.
