The Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabasaija, has declared a standby class one period for all Uganda Prisons Service staff, effective from 16th December 2024 to 18th January 2025.
This directive comes as the festive season often brings excitement among prisoners and staff, leading to potential security lapses.
Additionally, the prevailing threats of terrorism necessitate heightened vigilance in all prison units.
A statement released by Byabasaija shows that among other things that must strictly be adhered to during this period, includes;
Stenthening and enhance prison safety, security, intelligence, and coordination with other security agencies, remaining vigilant and alert.
Hired Prisoner’s labour(Kibaluwa) is suspended.
Suspension of Prisoners visitation, but thier items can be delivered at the gate.
Restriction of unauthorised persons from accessing the barracks,
Regular addimision of prisoners to outside health facilities and enhance deployment where necessary.
