Religious leaders have emphasized the need for peace and unity among different regions as Uganda approaches the new year. The call was made during the End-of-Year Prayers held at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) in Kyambogo.
Sheikh Abdu Obeid Kamulegeya, the Chief of Sheikhs at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and former Mufti of Uganda, presided over the event.
In his speech, he highlighted the importance of unity within and among religious communities. “Unity is the foundation of peace and progress. As believers, we must strengthen our bonds and act as ambassadors of harmony in our society,” he said.
The Head of the ONC, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, underscored the significance of government-led initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods. She particularly focused on the Parish Development Model, describing it as a transformative program for empowering communities at the grassroots level.
“This initiative has the potential to uplift lives and create sustainable development. I urge all stakeholders to collaborate and ensure its successful implementation,” Hajjat Namyalo said.
The End-of-Year Prayers brought together religious leaders, government representatives, and community members, offering a platform to reflect on the past year and commit to building a more united and peaceful Uganda in the coming year.
