The Gomba Magistrates Court has today November 21, 2024, remanded the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (A/RDC) for Rukiga district, Ivan Majambere Kamuntu Semakula, to prison on charges of land grabbing and cattle theft.
Majambere was apprehended earlier this week following a collaborative investigation conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
It is alleged that in August 2023, Majambere and his associates unlawfully took control of approximately 300 acres (Block 75, Plot 2) in Gomba District, property of Frank Rushanganwa.
During the proceedings, the Resident State Attorney Arthur Masaba outlined the charges, indicating that Majambere had invaded the disputed farm and stolen 157 cows, valued at shs318 million.
However, Majambere contends that he acquired part of the land from his co-accused, Amos Mwesigye, in 2020.
In March 2024, the court issued an eviction order against Majambere and his co-accused.
Masaba informed the court that investigations are still ongoing.
The Magistrate Pauline Sabakaki remanded the accused until December 3, 2024.
