The incident happened in the wee hours of this morning, March 11, 2025.
Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson, said the authorities are working tooth and nail to ensure clearing the scene and restoring normal traffic flow, but until then, caution and flexibility in travel plans are essential for all road users in the area.
“The road is currently halfway blocked, and manual offloading is required. The traffic flow is significantly impacted, but police are on the scene managing the situation,” he added.
He urged all motorists to exercise patience, discipline, and adhere to the directives of the officers on the ground.
The current Kampala-Jinja highway serves as Uganda’s busiest trade corridor, linking the country to the Port of Mombasa.
It also facilitates trade for landlocked neighbors such as Rwanda, DR Congo, and South Sudan, which rely on Uganda’s infrastructure for transit.
However, frequent traffic congestion and road deterioration have caused delays, increasing costs for businesses and transporters.
