A young man identified as Benjamin Agaba, dressed in the yellow colors of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, set himself on fire in a shocking act of desperation along Parliamentary Avenue, just a short distance from August House in Kampala.
This alarming event took place on February 25, 2025.
Witnesses reported that Agaba first soaked himself in petrol before igniting the flames, leaving bystanders and security personnel in disbelief.
Police quickly arrived on the scene, using water to extinguish the fire to save him from further harm.
Agaba, who suffered severe burns, expressed his frustration over the lack of support from the NRM, despite his loyalty to the party.
He claimed that his property had been destroyed by supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party, resulting in his father losing their home.
He alleged that he has been reaching out to the party for assistance for more than a year, but no one has ever responded, thus compelling him to take an extreme step.
