Ugandan businessman and billionaire Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and his daughter Sheenah Ruparelia will receive an award from His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for their outstanding contributions to the success of the G77+China and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summits that were conducted in Uganda last year.
Bringing together world leaders and important international stakeholders, Dr. Sudhir who is the chairman of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, which owns three properties: Speke Resort Munyonyo, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, and Speke Resort Convention Centre, was instrumental in organising these high-profile summits.
In order to guarantee that Uganda was prepared to host the summits, Sudhir led the massive project of building the Speke Convention Centre at Munyonyo in collaboration with the Ugandan government. The facilities, which are renowned for their top-notch amenities and advantageous location, were thought to be perfect for holding these significant diplomatic events.
The convention center’s construction supervisor, Sheena Ruparelia, is praised for her commitment and careful project management. International delegations expressed their gratitude for her leadership in ensuring that the facility met the highest standards. The Speke Convention Centre was built by a local company owned by Sudhir Ruparelia, a testament to Uganda’s domestic talent and resourcefulness, President Museveni proudly explained, while many world leaders reportedly marvelled at the project’s efficiency and quality, with some speculating that it had been undertaken by foreign contractors.
The two will be honoured with liberation medals during the national celebrations that will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at National Teacher’s College in Mubende District.
The President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will be the chief guest, joined by various dignitaries.
