ENTEBBE: Police in Entebbe are investigating a tragic house fire that claimed the lives of three young girls in the early hours of Friday morning, August 15, 2025. The incident occurred in Mpala Cell, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, and has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The victims, all siblings, have been identified as: Namiru Ellah, aged 12; Amani Namulema, aged 5; and Namujju Tamale, aged 3
According to preliminary investigations, the children’s mother, Nalubwama Julie, had reportedly left them alone in the house at the time of the fire. Their father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work. The blaze is believed to have started around 1:00 a.m., and was reported by the area’s LC1 chairperson.
Responding swiftly, Uganda Police’s Fire and Rescue Services managed to extinguish the fire. However, it was too late to save the children. Two bodies were recovered outside the charred structure, while the third was found inside, burned beyond recognition.
The scene has been documented, statements from witnesses recorded, and the bodies transported to the City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether negligence or foul play may have been involved.
The tragedy has sparked renewed calls for increased public awareness on fire safety and responsible child supervision, especially in homes lacking adult presence at night.
