The Naguru Police Barracks in Nakawa Division, Kampala, is reeling from a shocking incident where a police officer from the Counter Terrorism Tactical Unit fatally shot his wife.
The officer, identified as Alex Adei, reportedly took his wife’s life following a disagreement, though her identity has not yet been disclosed. This tragic event occurred on September 29, 2024.
Police have launched an investigation to uncover the details surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case; there have been instances of law enforcement officers committing acts of violence against their partners
In a similar case from September 5, 2023, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) David Ekwang, also part of the Counter Terrorism unit, shot his partner, Corporal Jennifer Atino, at the Jinja Road police barracks where she resided.
Atino was affiliated with the Very Important Person Protection Unit (VIPPU) at Parliament.
Ekwang used his service pistol shortly after Atino had reported a case against him at the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) for failing to support their child financially.
During a meeting led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maureen Atuhaire, heading the unit, Ekwang allegedly expressed his frustration, claiming that Atino’s actions were humiliating and that he wanted to “teach her a lesson.
He described his wife as a burden, stating that she pressured him into taking unplanned loans and did not appreciate his contributions to the family. Following this meeting, it is reported that Ekwang tracked Atino to her residence and tragically shot her.
