Two individuals have been confirmed deceased following a tragic incident in which a truck, experiencing brake failure, failed to brake and swept through a group of people, resulting in the immediate deaths of two people.
This unfortunate road accident took place this morning, October 25, 2024, at approximately 7:00 AM in Mbalala, near Global Paper, Mukono District.
As reported by the spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan area, Patrick Onyango, a Tata Signa truck with the registration number UBN 373E was traveling at a high speed down a slope when it lost control due to brake failure.
The truck swept through a group of pedestrians, leading to the tragic deaths of two brothers, identified as Willy Muguful, aged 28, and Derrick Cherimba, aged 24.
In a related incident, a Toyota Hiace (Drone) with registration number UBL 778F, which was traveling from Jinja to Kampala, slowed down to avoid a large pothole.
Unfortunately, an Isuzu Forward (Tipper) truck with registration number UBF 737T, which was following closely behind, failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with the rear of the Toyota Hiace. The collision caused the Toyota to veer off the road to the left, while the Isuzu truck swerved into the right lane.
Onyango stated that the victims of the second accident have been transported to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment, and their identities are still being verified.
He also mentioned that the police are conducting an investigation into the causes of both accidents and are working to identify the victims involved in the second incident
