As Uganda commemorates World Standards Day on October 14, 2024, the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has presented certificates of recognition to companies certified under ISO 9001 and the Integrated Management System (IMS).
This event is designed to acknowledge the efforts of organizations that implement international standards to boost the competitiveness of their exports in both regional and global markets.
The recognized entities include government agencies, manufacturers, and service providers across various sectors such as ICT, education, private security, and charter flight services.
UNBS holds accreditation from the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) to offer certifications for the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System.
Certificates issued by UNBS are internationally recognized and traceable to the global database (IAFCertSearch https://www.ifacertsearch.org) of accredited certifications that allows users to verify the validity and authenticity of certificates.
ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 are global standards that improve quality and food safety management within organizations, helping them enhance performance and fulfill customer expectations. These standards also assist the public sector in transforming bureaucratic processes into efficient, customer-oriented systems that provide better products and services to citizens.
The Integrated Management Systems (IMS) brings together various management processes, including quality, environmental, and health and safety standards, to optimize operations, minimize duplication costs, and thereby boost efficiency and organizational performance.
Achieving certification to international standards through UNBS supports the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) Policy, fostering import substitution, expanding market access, and increasing the competitiveness of Ugandan goods and services.
Additionally, it acts as a pre-qualification mechanism for supplying goods and services to the expanding oil and gas sector and government procurement in Uganda.
